As part of its ongoing efforts towards the digital transformation of municipal services, Muscat Municipality has invited property owners, developers, and contractors in the Governorate to familiarise themselves with the requirements for obtaining approvals for modern building systems. This initiative underscores the importance of complying with approved construction and building regulations to ensure public safety and maintain urban harmony.

The Municipality outlined the electronic application process for obtaining approval, which begins with submitting a digital application via the e-Services Portal. The submitted documents are then reviewed by a Muscat Municipality officer to ensure completeness. If complete, the application is referred to Sultan Qaboos University, where the applicant provides samples for testing and examination. The final report is then sent back to the Municipality, where it is reviewed by the relevant officer for approval and subsequently shared with the applicant. In some cases, additional reports may be required before reaching the final stage, where the applicant receives the official licensing certificate.

Muscat Municipality emphasised the necessity of securing the required permits before commencing any construction work, noting that any modification or addition made without an official permit constitutes a violation subject to penalties, which may include fines or the removal of unauthorised works in certain cases.

The Municipality announced that 23 companies have already applied for approval since the launch of the digital submission process. The adoption of modern building systems plays a key role in accelerating urban development, relying on innovative technologies that enhance efficiency, reduce completion timelines, lower costs, and minimise resource wastage through the use of high-quality products that comply with construction standards.
