Issuance of sick leave from private health facilities

The Ministry of Health has introduced new services on its website, aimed at improving services for individuals and institutions. These electronic services for commercial activities are categorized into private health institutions, the Drug Safety Center and Medical Supplies.

One of these services is the approving and issuing sick leave, that allows citizens and residents to obtain an approved sick leave issued by the treating physician in the private health institution, for submission to the requesting parties. To apply for the service, the doctor’s license and the institution’s license must be valid, with no technical or administrative violations against the doctor.

The service can be accessed directly through the electronic health portal after the doctor logs in via the phone number (with electronic authentication activated) or ID card. The doctor can also authorize a medical staff member to complete this procedure, so the request goes through four stages, starting with entering the  health facility information and the practitioner, then completing and confirming the data in the form.

In the second step, the patient’s information is entered, including contact details, workplace, and the medical diagnosis. This data is then verified through the civil status system for accuracy. Once confirmed, the sick leave approval is sent to the patient’s phone via text message or made available for direct download from the system. A verification code is included with the leave, allowing its authenticity to be confirmed through the digital health portal.

The Ministry of Health seeks to develop electronic services for all beneficiaries, as part of its goal to digitize health and innovation for high-quality care and sustainable health, in line Oman Vision 2024 in improving health services and digital transformation.
